Internet/WIFI

Providing access to electronic resources is an integral part of the library's commitment to adapt services based on changing technology and the needs of patrons. The Marengo Public Library offers access to the internet in response to advances in the technology and to the changing needs of the community. Computers and/or electronic devices at the library provide access to the catalog, the internet, Microsoft Office programs, children’s programs, and a variety of reference databases. Patrons with laptop computers, tablets or cell phones are welcome to use our free WIFI.

Computer Lab

The Marengo Public Library has desktop computers available for patrons over the age of 18. The computer lab provides a quiet workspace and 4 HP Windows 11 desktop computers with 24 inch HD monitors. Given the public setting, complete privacy is not to be assumed. Individuals need to consider this and respect other patrons using the computer lab.

Chromebooks

The Marengo Public Library (MPL) has 4 Chromebooks available for onsite use only.  Patrons ages 11-17 must have a  parent or guardian over 18 register the minor at the library before a device can be used. At the time of registration the Marengo Public Library will issue a patron number that will allow the child to use a Chromebook and/or checkout other library materials. The library staff does not monitor or control the websites young patrons are using.  However, the MPL does have content filters to protect minors from accessing inappropriate websites (CIPA). Chromebooks can be checked out at the circulation desk. At the time of checkout the device will be inspected for any damage. Chromebooks must be returned to the circulation desk and will be inspected for any damage prior to the minor leaving the library. If any damage is  found, parents/guardian will be notified immediately. The MPL understands that accidents can happen, however parents/guardians are responsible for any repairs and/or replacement cost that occurred when their child uses the device.
